Fedora Core 2 is out... and the mirrors are broken
Mirror Access
The following mirrors carry Fedora Core:
Ever doubt the power that open source software exerts on the Internet? Just check out what Fedora Core 2 is doing to servers around the nation. Visit the Fedora mirrors page and try to connect to any US server. You can't. And it's past midnight on the east coast!
But I've got a secret... I'm currently downloading all four of the ISO (files that make CDs) at the full speed of my Road Runner cable modem.

Think Tank Claims Torvalds Didn't Write Linux
Wow! Newsflash! Newsflash! Linus didn't write Linux! 88| 88| What next?! OJ really did kill Nicole?
QuoteKenneth Brown, president of AdTI, claims that Linux is based on intellectual property "often taken or adapted without permission from material owned by other companies and individuals." And Linus even goes on to admit it!
Linus Torvalds comes clean
"OK, I admit it. I was just a front man for the real fathers of Linux: the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus.

Updates from the world of my cycling
I'm going to start keeping track of some of my cycling adventures here. I know there's a whole slew of people who are waiting impatiently for these, so here we go.
Last night (Tuesday), I did my first group ride in the rain here in KC. In all honesty, riding for two hours in on and off rain here was better than 15 minutes of rain in El Paso!

Democratic Billboard in downtown Kansas City causes stire
The Democratics in Missouri have caused a stir. The billboard which has just made the news has been up on my way home from work for the past few days. The Rebpulicans are upset saying it's race baiting. The Democrats defend their billboard saying it is just the first of many different portraits. Interesting that those choice for their first billboard though... Note to Democratic party: You should have had a multi-racial group of kids on the first billboard.

GeorgeWBush.com :: Leader Board
Just got an email from the President! Well, ok, from his campaign. Today's email is kind of interesting as it promotes a new grassroots movement. People like to see their name in print, even if it is a website (a la TravisSwicegood.com :) ) and the President's camp is playing on that. They have a Leader Board to show who their top volunteers are. What a way to play on people's pride.

What's My Google Number
I'm working on it. When I first read this article, my Google Number was just under 100, now I'm up to 594. Well, actually, it's 592, because two of the entries on the geneology website aren't mind. Anyhow, according to this article, I still shouldn't "hang my shingle" just yet. I'm getting there though.
For those who are interested, you can find your Google Number by going to Google.

Brown vs. Board of Education Anniversary
Today makes the 50th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education. On my way to lunch this afternoon, I listened to a portion of the Brown vs. Board of Education ceremony in Kansas. The governor of Kansas, Kathleen Sebelius, gave an excellent speech, with one exception. She called for continued action to insure that each child receives the quality education that they are entitled to but failed to explain how she planned on making that call to action a reality within Kansas.

Helios Solar Aircraft
Wow, this is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while! The Helios from NASAS is essentially a solar-powered, flying antenna! It transmits wireless singles to phones, computer receivers, radio receivers (or it could), or any other number of things that need data transferred to them. It works better than a satellite as there is no launch, it takes off of its own power, and can sustain over long periods of time as it's fuel - electricity - is generated from the solar panels that cover its hughe 247 foot wingspan.

Ironic coincidence, or a deliberate reminder
Today marks the first day gay and lesbian couples can legally marry in Massachusetts. Today's date seemed arbitrary to all but a few when on February 4th, 2004, the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was in fact allowed by the Massachusetts constitution stating that:
Quote from rulingBarred access to the protections, benefits, and obligations of civil marriage, a person who enters into an intimate, exclusive union with another of the same sex is arbitrarily deprived of membership in one of our community's most rewarding and cherished institutions.

NPR : 'Brown v. Board:' Letters to Eisenhower
On my way home from work today I was listening to NPR - yes, I do have a habit called NPR - and they All Things Considered had a very provocative piece called Brown v. Board: Letters to Eisenhower which consisted of approximately 10 minutes of letters addressed to the then President in the wake of the Brown vs. Board of Education ruling. Many were for, many were against, but they all offered a glimpse into a not-so-distant past what we would do well to remember.
